Okay, so who's this person trying to fill your home with bugs?

I’m Emily! I’m an amateur entomologist and certified Bug Friend. I’ve spent a long time absolutely fascinated by insects (as my horrified preschool teachers can attest), which led me first to the world of agriculture, and then to museums. Now, I’m a professional museum educator who specializes in natural history interpretation.

But the thing is, even surrounded by all sorts of interesting natural history specimens, I still wasn’t getting the insect fix I was looking for. So I started a quest! That quest was to find a subscription box, any subscription box, that would give me bugs. I found some tangentially-related boxes (like from artists who specialize in bug art, or limited-term pinning series), but none that quite scratched the right itch. I wanted community. I wanted to learn. I wanted to hold neat new insects with my own hands and see them with my own eyes! So I set out to do it myself.

I started testing the waters with a little buggy community in the form of my Instagram account (@naturalistsco – come join us!) and could hardly contain my joy when I saw that people were watching my videos! And liking! And commenting! And sharing! I could see that people wanted that community in the same way that I did. People wanted to learn about these misunderstood little critters. And so suddenly, that little dream of a subscription box all about bugs wasn’t just for me anymore!

And now, here we are.
